Politics and PR| Is Burris Caught In PR Limbo?
Should Ill. Senate Appointee Take A Stance? Or Just Sit Down?
Quick: What’s your take on Roland Burris, the person?
It’s a difficult question — but according to this USA Today poll, most are weighing in against his appointment by disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (of PR FAIL fame) to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.
We can’t figure out what is going on in the Burris camp, but any loyalty he may have felt to Blagojevich for the appointment will have to subside in lieu of a public stance against corruption. There’s no telling whether Burris would be a good or bad senator, but a good start in establishing his ethical persona would be to strengthen his statements not on the legality of the appointment (save it for the lawyers) but against the corruption that drew all this media attention in the first place.

- Meanwhile, in local news, our state’s incoming U.S. Senator Kay Hagan doesn’t have enough room for reporters at her open house, per the News and Observer. Might help to grant some extra press chairs at the next event to play fair — and keep her name out of the papers in stories like this.
