The PR Professional and SEO
The PR professional and search engine optimization (SEO) are moving in the same direction as more people are finding their news online. Everyone in public relations is posting press releases to common online news wires like PR.com and theopenpress.com but are you, the public relations professional, going the extra mile for your clients? The five tips below will help ensure that your clients press releases and stories find their way to the top of search engine results:
1) Digg It: The popular social networking site Digg.com is a powerful tool for increased visibility on the web. Hours after submitting a story to digg it will appear on the first page, often in the top five listings, of search engine results.
2) Blog It: If your client has a blog, blog on your topic. If they do not have a blog, start one! They are free and, over time, are an excellent way to drive traffic to a client’s website. Blogs are an esasy way to start a conversation with potential customers.
3) Comment on It: Be sure to comment on other blogs with high Google page ranks. Commenting on other blogs allows you to create backlinks, or connections from one website to another. This associates your clients website, with other important websites. Search engines see these backlinks as relevance by association (the website you are commenting on is important so your clients must be as well).
4) Facebook It: Are you promoting an event for your client? Create a Facebook event and send it to the people who are on Facebook whom your client would like to invite. Facebook has also turned the corner as a useful tool for businesses as they can create their own company page and people can become “fans” of the company.
5) Flickr It: Flickr.com is a social networking website for photos and photographers. It is an excellent venue for pictures from events. Flickr is useful as a public relations tool because images are also found in search engine results. If the image’s title and tags are appropriate Flickr can be a powerful website traffic tool.
