Raleigh NC| IBM to Research Social Software in the Workplace

Where Social Software and Business Meet

Social media and networking are slowly finding their way into the business world.  Websites such as LinkedIn and Twitter have entered into business and have paved the way for more robust applications in the future.  The Triangle Business Journal recently reported that IBM is opening the IBM Center for Social Software in Cambridge, MA, to study social software applications in the business world.  IBM has partnered with Harvard University and MIT Media Labs at the new center.  Initially IBM and its partners will research social software applications already in place to quantify the effects on office productivity.

The overall goal of the research center, after quantifying the effects of social networking in a business setting, is to design useful social software geared towards businesses.  IBM hopes to capitalize on this research by being able to promote the new social software to businesses as an essential part of their overall information technology plan.
