Raleigh NC| James Taylor Plays for Free in Raleigh
Taylor, Obama and McCain have Carolina In Their Minds
After playing in Chapel Hill on Monday, James Taylor brought his “Change We Need Tour” to Raleigh where he played a free concert in Moore Sq. yesterday. Taylor is touring across the state he grew up in to support Barack Obama. Taylor has played in Charlotte, Asheville, Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Wilmington from October 19 – 21.
Both Barack Obama and John McCain have Carolina in their minds as the state will be a battle ground state for the first time in years. McCain, for his part, has Hank William Jr. touring to promote McCain. I was not able to make it to the Taylor concert yesterday (two meetings around lunch cramped my style) but thanks to Ginny at 30Threads I was able to catch some of the highlights of the show.
Looking at the tour from a public relations perspective there are positives and negatives. The two biggest things the mini-tour had going for it was that it was free and two big names were attached to it (James Taylor and Barack Obama). The one thing that they could have done better was to promote the event across several media channels. There was very little coverage in the N&O and other traditional media. There was interest online as several local blogs discussed the upcoming mini-tour but overall, the events were not promoted well by either Taylor or Obama.
