Twitter Finds its Way into the Office
Twitter, a website-based messaging service, is gaining popularity and has begun to grow exponentially. Twitter users are allowed to post 140 character messages, commonly called “tweets”, to answer the question,” What are you doing now?” The realm of Twitter consists of those people following your tweets and the people’s tweets that you follow.
With its rise in popularity, businesses are beginning to take notice. Zappos.com’s CEO, Tony Hsieh, is one of the most followed Twitter users, with over 16,000 people following his tweets. Another tact used by companies is to search tweets using websites like TwitterTroll which indexes all of the tweets. This allows companies to see what people are saying about their company and products.
What was once strictly a messaging toy is quickly becoming a business tool. In the world of public relations following Twitter has become essential. Monitoring the discussions taking place and facilitating the right conversations are extremely important. Reporters have also started using Twitter, making it a quick way for us to see what stories they are writing.
